Boundless
Playgrounds |
http://www.boundlessplaygrounds.org/aboutus/why_overview.php
Play is a fundamental joy of childhood. It is also an
important way children learn to navigate the world. Boundless Playgrounds
projects benefit children with and without disabilities by providing
opportunities for all children to play together side-by-side. More than five
million children in the United States alone have some type of disability
that makes it hard or impossible for them to enjoy traditional playgrounds.
These children often do not get to experience what most other children take
for granted. |

Buddy Ball |
http://www.buddyball.org/default.asp
To date
three are over 300 children ages four to twenty with every type of
disability who have been involved in Buddy Ball. They now have the
opportunity to hit a home run, shoot a basket, kick a goal, or bowl that
strike, all because of Buddy Ball. The League's goal is to give all children
that have a mental or physical disability the same chance that any of their
peers have, but in a adapted way, "To give all children the same opportunity
to play recreational sports no matter what their ability." The unique
twists to Buddy Ball are the Buddies - boy and girl volunteers who are not
disabled! The Buddies often establish a friendship with the children,
creating an atmosphere of understanding between children with disabilities,
and children without. More than 700 Buddies have been involved with the
program since its inception. |

Individuals with Disabilities Education Act - IDEA Law and Resources |
http://www.cec.sped.org/law_res/doc/
The new IDEA will do much to advance the educational
success of children with disabilities as well as improve special education
conditions. CEC worked closely with Congress members to ensure the needs and
requirements of students with disabilities were understood and that their
rights would be protected. At the same time, CEC advocated for changes in
legislation that would assist special educators by improving special
education teaching conditions and providing additional professional
development. |
